Professor of Pathology

David Krasne, is the medical director of the pathology department and clinical laboratory at Providence Saint John’s Health Center and professor of pathology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute.

During the 1990s, alongside researchers at the John Wayne Cancer Institute including Dr. Donald Morton and Armando Giuliano, Dr. Krasne developed and published some of the seminal work on the pathologic techniques used to evaluate sentinel lymph nodes for breast cancer and melanoma; techniques which today remain the international standard of care in the evaluation of patients with these and certain other cancer types.  Dr. Krasne has over 25 years experience evaluating tumors at the John Wayne and Saint John’s Health Center, and maintains disease specific experience in many areas of tumor pathology.

As Medical Director of Saint John’s Laboratory since 1994, some of Dr. Krasne’s other professional interests include: how pathologists add value to patient care, controversial laboratory screening tests such as the PSA test for prostate cancer, and development of systems based approaches to diagnostic error prevention.
