Social, emotional, financial and discharge planning issues can be discussed. Resource and information referrals also are available. Joseph Greenberg, LCSW, and Caroline Sarafin, MSW, are available to help provide you these services. No referral is necessary.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"h5\">SPIRITUAL CARE<\/h5>\n<p>Spiritual and emotional support, including chaplaincy services, is available for all cancer patients and their families 24 hours a day. The Chapel on the 4<sup>th<\/sup> floor is open to all. A meditation room is available to all on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> floor of the hospital. Some cancer patients feel they can benefit from these therapies <u>in addition to their medical treatment.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Please talk to your provider before trying complementary therapy treatments since there some may interfere with your treatment or cause side effects. Your provider will also be able to advise you about current evidence of how these therapies have helped others. Patients may benefit from medications and access to new technologies available only to research study participants. For more information and eligibility criteria for clinical studies, ask a member of your breast cancer team.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div class=\"em-panel__container\">\n\t\t\t<div id=\"controls-accordions-0-panel-what-is-a-cancer-registry\" class=\"em-panel__control\" role=\"tab\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordions-0-panel-what-is-a-cancer-registry\">What is a &ldquo;Cancer Registry?&rdquo;<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordions-0-panel-what-is-a-cancer-registry\" class=\"em-panel\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-hidden=\"true\" aria-labelledby=\"controls-accordions-0-panel-what-is-a-cancer-registry\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"em-panel__content\">\n<p>The Saint John&rsquo;s Cancer Institute collects cancer patient information in a breast cancer registry. Cancer Registrars collect diagnosis and treatment information on all cancer patients diagnosed and treated. This registry allows researchers and clinicians to review outcomes and survival statistics, support clinical research, and for professional publications.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div class=\"em-panel__container\">\n\t\t\t<div id=\"controls-accordions-0-panel-is-the-providence-saint-johns-margie-petersen-breast-center-accredited\" class=\"em-panel__control\" role=\"tab\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordions-0-panel-is-the-providence-saint-johns-margie-petersen-breast-center-accredited\">Is the Providence Saint John&rsquo;s Margie Petersen Breast Center accredited?<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordions-0-panel-is-the-providence-saint-johns-margie-petersen-breast-center-accredited\" class=\"em-panel\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-hidden=\"true\" aria-labelledby=\"controls-accordions-0-panel-is-the-providence-saint-johns-margie-petersen-breast-center-accredited\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"em-panel__content\">\n<p>Providence Saint John&rsquo;s Health Center is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer. Additionally, the Breast Imaging Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence for mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast MRI. The Providence Center for Clinical Genetics and Genomics is available to provide genetics consultation for you and your family if you think cancer may be inherited in your family. You and your family members may benefit from these services. Ask your nurse or provider about this service, or call <strong><a href=\"tel:818-748-4748\">818-748-4748<\/a>,<\/strong> option 3, for more information and to schedule an appointment. Services are available at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintjohnscancer.org\/breast\/margie-petersen-breast-center\/\">Margie Peterson Breast Center<\/a> and at other Providence sites.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div class=\"em-panel__container\">\n\t\t\t<div id=\"controls-accordions-0-panel-will-treatment-affect-my-ability-to-have-children\" class=\"em-panel__control\" role=\"tab\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"accordions-0-panel-will-treatment-affect-my-ability-to-have-children\">Will treatment affect my ability to have children?<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div id=\"accordions-0-panel-will-treatment-affect-my-ability-to-have-children\" class=\"em-panel\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-hidden=\"true\" aria-labelledby=\"controls-accordions-0-panel-will-treatment-affect-my-ability-to-have-children\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"em-panel__content\">\n<p>Chemotherapy treatments may cause temporary or permanent infertility. These side effects are related to a number of factors including your age at time of treatment, the specific type and dose of chemotherapy, and length of time since treatment.<\/p>\n<p>If you are concerned about the effects of cancer treatment on your ability to have children, discuss this with your provider before treatment.
