Saint John’s Cancer Institute Biospecimen Repository Protocol

Biospecimen Banking

When cancer patients undergo procedures such as biopsies or surgery in which malignant tissue is removed for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, it is often possible for a portion of the specimen to be stored and used later for research. Many patients have given consent for their biospecimens to be used for research in the hope that the resulting knowledge might help other patients in future years. At JWCI, our goal is to offer every patient undergoing a procedure, cancer-related or otherwise, an opportunity to donate his or her remnant tissue and biospecimens for potential research.
