A Free CME Symposium for Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology in California

On Saturday, September 13th, the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows welcomed guests to the Santa Monica Melanoma Symposium with a warm continental breakfast and ocean views that set the tone for a day of learning and connection. Attendees checked in at the registration desk, receiving name badges and note booklets before gathering in the elegant Sapphire Ballroom, which comfortably seats up to 150 guests.

This free CME-accredited event was made possible through generous sponsorship from the Borstein Family Foundation, Castle Bioscience, Bristol Myers Squibb, Caris Lifesciences, Merck, Pfizer, and Providence Saint John’s Cancer Institute. The symposium was jointly provided by the Southern Medical Association and Saint John’s Cancer Institute, meeting ACCME standards and offering 6 AMA PRA Category 1 credits to participating physicians.

Why Host at the Fairmont?

The location speaks for itself—perched on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Fairmont Miramar offers a serene and inspiring setting. But the real draw is the leadership and legacy of Saint John’s Cancer Institute. Under the guidance of program directors Kim Margolin, MD (medical oncologist) and Richard Essner, MD (surgical oncologist), the institute continues to lead the charge in melanoma and cutaneous skin cancer research and clinical trials.

A Gathering of Minds

The symposium attracted top-tier speakers from across the country, including experts from Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida, MD Anderson in Texas, and local leaders from UCLA, the Angeles Clinic, and City of Hope. This blend of national and regional voices fostered rich dialogue and collaboration.
