Marissa Sepulveda is an Associate Clinical Social Worker with a life-long passion for promoting equity and diminishing barriers for patients navigating the healthcare system. Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Marissa earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology at Loyola University Chicago. Soon after, she moved across the country to Los Angeles and earned her master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California. Marissa’s clinical work expands across various healthcare populations, including experience within LGBTQ+ sexual health, street medicine, children/youth/family mental health, dialysis/End-Stage Renal Disease, and currently outpatient oncology.
Marissa leads with empathy, prioritizing the holistic view of a patient’s life and individualizing care towards each patient’s specific needs. She often supports patients by guiding them through emotional processing, exploring difficult feelings, validating unique experiences, providing mental health education and coping skills, and utilizing various clinical interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. Marissa also educates patients on both internal and external resources, including community social support, financial aid, government programs, and other supportive measures. Overall, Marissa is truly committed to providing meaningful, collaborative, and compassionate care to the patients here at Saint John’s Health Center.
