Dear Friends,
Thank you for considering support of the Margie Petersen Breast Center and our Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship training program at the Saint John’s Cancer Institute.
I believe there is nothing more important to effect change for women with breast cancer than to train the next generation of breast cancer specialists. I hope you agree that it’s vital for more women to have the option of newer techniques we offer such as Oncoplastic surgery and Intraoperative Radiation Therapy. Currently, only a handful of breast fellowships in the country provide this training.
I’m so grateful to Bonnie and Joseph Otting, who have generously offered to help raise funds for the fellowship program with a $100,000 matching gift! That means every gift you make will be matched dollar-for-dollar!
Breast fellows are already skilled general surgeons who are Board-eligible/certified in either general surgery or obstetrics/gynecology. During their one-year fellowship, the fellow will gain much more than clinical skills. He or she will also experience the personalized and compassionate way we approach each individual patient. And, our whole person approach that considers psychological care, nutrition, education and prevention.
Your support will have a tremendous ripple effect as the person you help train will go on to treat thousands of women. Additionally, he or she will carry forward their own innovative research projects focused on finding better ways to treat and detect breast cancer.
