Advancing Cancer Research Through Discovery, Collaboration, and Clinical Impact

Scientific discovery is central to the mission of Saint John’s Cancer Institute. Our physicians, scientists, fellows, and research teams work together to advance the understanding of cancer while translating laboratory and clinical discoveries into meaningful improvements in patient care. Many of our investigators are also practicing clinicians, bringing firsthand knowledge of patients’ needs into the research process and helping ensure that today’s discoveries inform tomorrow’s treatments.

Each year, Saint John’s Cancer Institute publishes an Annual Research Report highlighting peer-reviewed publications, scientific milestones, and collaborative achievements from across the Institute. These reports reflect the dedication of our multidisciplinary teams and provide a snapshot of the ongoing work that continues to shape cancer care both within our community and around the world.

Research Collaboration Across Specialties

Cancer research is rarely accomplished by a single investigator. At Saint John’s Cancer Institute, our research culture is built on collaboration among physicians, scientists, fellows, laboratory investigators, and national and international partners. Many publications represent the combined expertise of multiple researchers, with faculty members supporting one another across disease sites, specialties, and scientific disciplines.

Our research spans numerous areas of expertise, including melanoma, breast, urology, endocrine, thoracic and pulmonary, gastrointestinal (GI), gynecologic (GYN), and Translational Molecular Medicine. By combining laboratory science with clinical investigation, our teams pursue innovative approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and precision medicine.

Faculty members also mentor fellows and early-career investigators who actively contribute to research projects, publications, and scientific presentations. This collaborative environment helps develop future leaders in oncology while strengthening the Institute’s ability to answer increasingly complex questions through multidisciplinary investigation.
