Providence Saint John’s Health Center has recently received five awards from Women’s Choice Award, a women-centered organization that recognizes the best hospitals in the US.
The 2025 awards include Mammogram, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Obstetrics, Patient Safety, and Stroke Care—symbols of excellence awarded by the collective voice of women.
The Women’s Choice Awards highlight centers of excellence at Providence Saint John’s in various areas of healthcare including the Women’s Health and Wellness Institute, Pacific Neuroscience Institute, and The Margie Petersen Breast Center at Saint John’s Health Center.
Obstetrics Award
Providence Saint John’s was honored for its outstanding obstetrics care. The award is based on patient satisfaction and evidence-based practices. Hospitals with high patient recommendation ratings and Level III/IV Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) received extra points. Providence Saint John’s also excelled in early elective delivery rates and infection control. Recent statistics from the American Pregnancy Association indicate that women under the age of 35 have a 15% chance of miscarriage, while women aged 35-45 have a 20-35% chance. High-risk pregnancies often require specialized care for the baby after birth, making the presence of advanced NICUs crucial.

Patient Safety Award
The center received recognition for its commitment to patient safety. This award considers hospitals with low incidences of surgical errors and infections. Providence Saint John’s met stringent criteria, including low complications and infection rates and high patient recommendation ratings. The award evaluates hospitals based on thirteen measures, such as deaths among patients with serious treatable complications after surgery, central line-associated bloodstream infections, and surgical site infections. Only the top 10% of hospitals in the US are recognized for patient safety. Safety protocols at Saint John’s are multi-layered and consistently monitored, ensuring patient well-being is of the highest priority.

Stroke Care Award
Providence Saint John’s was awarded for its exceptional stroke care. The award is given to hospitals with Stroke Center Certification, recognizing centers that meet high standards for stroke care. Providence Saint John’s demonstrated advanced capabilities and high patient recommendation ratings. The center holds certifications such as Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center and Advanced Primary Stroke Center, which require rigorous standards in patient care, self-management activities, and compliance with clinical practice guidelines. Additionally, the hospital maintains a high rating for the time from emergency department arrival to head CT scan results. Stroke care at Saint John’s involves an all-hands approach, activivating critical processes and treatment priority in the least amount of time.

Minimally Invasive Surgery Award
Providence Saint John’s was honored for its expertise in minimally invasive surgery. Hospitals with high patient recommendation ratings and accreditation for robotic surgery received this award. Providence Saint John’s met these qualifications and provided advanced surgical care. The center offers robotic surgery and has accreditations from the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS) and the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence for Robotic Surgery. Minimally invasive surgical techniques, including the robotics program at Saint John’s enables patients to reach the recovery phase sooner, reduicing hospital stays and the likelihood of complications.
