The Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center Opens Two New Clinical Trials for Adults with Non‑Small Cell Lung Cancer

The Merck TroFuse 023 and TroFuse 007 studies explore investigational combinations involving two different drugs. One is an investigational antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) being studied for cancer treatment and the other an FDA approved immune checkpoint inhibitor.

What is the key difference between these two non-small cell lung cancer trials?

Both trials involve the use of the experimental antibody-drug conjugate. TroFuse 023 adds it after chemotherapy; TroFuse 007 tests the experimental antibody-drug conjugate from the start.

TroFuse 023 — After initial treatment

This study looks at experimental antibody-drug conjugate after chemotherapy plus an additional immune checkpoint inhibitor. Participants first receive standard treatment. The study then compares the two drugs and the immune checkpoint inhibitor alone to see which approach may help slow or stop the cancer.

TroFuse 007 — As part of first treatment

This study looks at experimental antibody-drug conjugate as part of your first treatment. It compares the use of the investigational antibody-drug conjugate and a checkpoint inhibitor, and the immune checkpoint inhibitor alone to see whether starting with the combination may help slow or stop the cancer.

Karlton T. Wong, MD

Karlton Wong, MD, is a triple board-certified hematology oncologist who practices at the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center, in Burbank, California. He received his medical degree from USC Keck School of Medicine, before completing his Internal Medicine Residency at the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center. Afterwards, he completed his Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Karlton Wong, MD, is a triple board-certified medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine specialist who practices at the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center, in Burbank, California.

Dr. Wong received his medical degree from USC Keck School of Medicine, before completing his Internal Medicine Residency at the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center. Afterwards, he completed his Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Wong has authored numerous scientific publications, presented research in international academic meetings, and has participated in professional organizations including the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
