Urologic Surgical Oncology Fellowship, Saint John’s Cancer Institute

Dr. Josh Gottlieb is originally from Agoura Hills, CA and attended California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO) for his undergraduate degree where he studied Biochemistry. During this time, he worked in a molecular biology lab studying homing endonucleases, which are proteins that recognize and repair DNA mutations. This undergraduate research was sponsored for one summer by Amgen, and he eventually presented the project at Amgen’s headquarters.

After college, he moved to New York where he attended medical school at New York Institute of Technology – College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYIT-COM). During this time, he discovered his passion for surgery and Urology. He then completed his residency training in Urology at Montefiore Medical Center – Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. During this time, his interests in Urologic Oncology and robotic surgery grew.

After completing residency in June 2022, he returned to southern California and started fellowship training in Robotics/Urologic Oncology at St. John’s Cancer Institute under Dr. Timothy Wilson. He is now spending the 1st year of fellowship primarily in research where he is working on several projects related to prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and upper tract urothelial carcinoma. He plans to complete training in June 2024 with hopes of remaining in southern California permanently.
