Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Ron Jachimowicz is a physician-scientist and Max Planck Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, where he directs a research program focused on mechanisms of DNA repair, genome maintenance, aging, and cancer. His interdisciplinary work aims to elucidate how defects in DNA repair pathways contribute to age-associated diseases and cancer, with the goal of uncovering novel therapeutic vulnerabilities and translating molecular insights into clinical advances.
Dr. Jachimowicz received his medical degree (MD) from the University of Cologne, where he also completed his MD thesis and subsequent clinical training in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology. He went on to conduct postdoctoral research at both the University of Cologne’s CECAD Research Center and the David and Inez Myers Laboratory of Cancer Genetics at the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, strengthening his expertise in cancer genetics and DNA damage responses.
In addition to his leadership at the Max Planck Institute, he serves as an attending physician in the Department of Hematology, Oncology, and Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital Cologne and holds the academic title Privatdozent, reflecting his habilitation and independent teaching qualification in medicine. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Theodor-Frerichs Award of the German Society for Internal Medicine and a faculty award for outstanding publication at the University of Cologne.
