Palliative Care

The goal of palliative care is to support the best possible quality of life for patients and their families, regardless of the stage of disease or the need for other therapies. The American Society for Clinical Oncology (2016) recommends:  “Patients with advanced cancer, whether inpatient or outpatient, should receive dedicated palliative care services, early in the disease course, concurrent with active treatment.”

Our palliative and supportive care services are focused on improving the quality of life and comfort for our patients, including:

  • Support with pain and complex symptom management
  • Clarifying understanding of disease and treatment goals
  • Coordination and management of home health services
  • Reviewing and completing Advance Directives, POLST forms
  • Education about illness and prognosis
  • Support with end of life care and referral to hospice
