Dr. Jessica Weiss wins First Place at PCSA annual meeting, 2023.
Dr. Jessica Weiss, a senior fellow of the Donald L. Morton (DLM) Complex Surgical Oncology Fellowship won the “overall competition with her presentation on, ‘COVID-19 Delay in Screening Colonoscopy Impacts Survival in an Integrated Healthcare System’ outscoring trainees from Stanford, Oregon Health and Seattle Children’s,” according to Dr. Trevan Fischer, Assistant Program Director of the DLM Complex Surgical Oncology Fellowship program, and also a DLM graduate himself.
The competition was held from February 2nd through the 5th, 2023, at The Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, California for the Pacific Coast Surgical Association’s (PCSA) Annual Meeting. The conference included 32 abstract submissions from trainees on the west coast. See the entire list of submissions on PCSA’s website.
Dr. Weiss presented February 4th at 9 a.m., Saturday, and was accompanied by Dr. Anton Bilchik, lead author of the study. Dr. Anton Bilchik is the Chief of General Surgery at Providence, Saint John’s Health Center, and Professor of Surgical Oncology at Saint John’s Cancer Institute. He specializes in complex cases of Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary tumors and disorders and was a fellow of Donald L. Morton.
This study highlights the great work of our fellows and faculty and shows how we can utilize the larger Providence Research Network to have very impactful research. Kudos to Anton for a lot of work leading this study and has several others in the pipeline along the same topic.
